Another Sad Love Story Chapter 17.2

Su-Jin was about to say something more but Seung Hyun came and interrupted what she was supposed to say. She didn’t want to admit it but her heart almost melted when she heard Jiyong’s last reply. How could somebody still love the same person that made her feel the most unbearable pain in her life? It was really stupid but that was what Su-Jin felt that moment. She still loved Jiyong even if he was the reason why she had to run away in the first place. However, she also felt scared because she was too vulnerable. One simple gesture from Jiyong and she was already defenseless. So, she tried putting up her line of defenses and hoped that she may not have to do it again.

The sun was setting when they finally decided to end their little tour. Su-Jin had to work that night again at the food stall so she had to go home and get ready. Seung Hyun, who was already checked-in at the only hotel in town, went back to his hotel room to get some rest. As for Jiyong, he needed to get Gaho first in Su-Jin’s apartment before he could check-in at the hotel as well.

The walk to Su-Jin’s apartment was again awkward and silent. They were walking side by side but none of them wanted to make the first move in breaking the silence. Each was aware of each other’s presence and each was trying to decipher each other’s thoughts. When they reached the apartment, Jiyong immediately went to get Gaho. He said “thanks” and “goodnight” and headed for the door.

“Wait!” Su-Jin stopped Jiyong.

Jiyong, who was already by the door, turned around to face Su-Jin.

“Are you checking-in at the hotel?” Su-Jin asked but that was not what she actually wanted to ask.

“Yeah. I’ll see you tomorrow,” Jiyong answered and motioned for the door again.

“Why are you here GD?” Su-Jin hurriedly asked before Jiyong could open the door.

That was the question she was supposed to ask Jiyong that afternoon before Seung Hyun interrupted them. It was really bugging her. Why was he there? What could possibly be the reason why he came all the way down there? She wanted answers.

“What do you mean why I’m here?” Jiyong asked back.

“I mean, why are you here, in this place? There’s no reason for you to be here. It’s obviously not because of work because you don’t have a schedule for the week and it’s obviously not for a vacation because there are a lot of places far more beautiful than this town that you can go to. So, why?”

Jiyong sighed. He didn’t know how to put into words the answer to that question. Yes, he loved her, but he didn’t know how to say that after the hurt he cause her. He was afraid that if he said it then she would run away again. And, he was afraid because might not feel the same for him, that all the pain had already taken away what love she had left for him.

“I’m here because you’re here Su-Jin,” was all Jiyong had to say.

“What kind of an answer is that? You’re here because I’m here? Don’t give me that bullshit GD! You know that I now there’s more to that.” Su-Jin almost shouted in fury.

“What do you want me to say Su-Jin?”

Su-Jin was silenced. What did she want him to say? Really. If he told her he was there because he loved her and wanted them to be together, would she have believed him? But, that was impossible considering the fact that he loved her Unnie, not her. So, what answer was she really expecting from him anyway? And, if in case he really did love her, was she willing to open that door again and risk having to go through the same ordeal six months ago?

Their conversation-gradually-turning-into-a-fight was halted by Jiyong’s phone ringing. He reached for his phone in his pocket and answered it immediately.

“Yeoboseyo?…..Yes……Why?…….What?!……..When did this happen?…….We’ll be there immediately,” Jiyong hung up the phone and looked at Su-Jin worriedly. “You have to come home to Seoul with me,” Jiyong started. “Your father is in the hospital. He had another attack.”

“Oh my god!” was all that Su-Jin managed to say because of shock.
